Clear is Kind on Your Website (& Will Help You Book Right-Fit Clients)
Introduction
This is an excerpt from Delightful Sites — a weekly email series helping therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs build sustainable, values-aligned businesses, through the power of website marketing. 💐
Has this ever happened in your business?
👉🏽 Someone reaches out for services.
👉🏽 You hop on a consult call / start emailing back and forth.
👉🏽 It turns out they don’t know important info about your services, and aren’t the right fit for your practice.
Maybe they thought you took a specific insurance, but you don’t.
Maybe they thought you meet in person, but you’re online only.
Maybe they’re hoping therapy will “fix” them in 6 weeks, but you do depth work that spans across months/yrs.
🙃 While these mix-ups are bound to happen, I think there is an opportunity here for our websites to do some of the heavy lifting, educating folks on what our businesses are all about, before they ever reach out.
You know the saying, “clear is kind”? This is just as true for websites as it is for everyday communication. Clear language on a website helps prospective clients make an informed decision, and it saves time for all parties involved.
Being clear on your website can look like:
🫶🏽 Sharing your rates transparently, in an easy-to-find place on your website (FAQs page or Contact page) — so people are aware of your rates before they reach out. Don’t make people dig for this info!
🫶🏽 Naming your services & location at the top of your Home Page & any Service Pages (ex: “IFS Therapy online in Oregon” - not just “IFS Therapy”). If your services are limited to certain locations (due to state licensure rules), it’s in your best interest to attract clients in those locations, of course!
Plus, a website that spells out its services & location clearly, is more likely to show up in Google/AI searches than a website that neglects to mention this info.
🫶🏽 Including a “we’re likely a fit if…” section on your website, with a few bullet points describing your ideal clients (ex: we’re likely a fit if… you want to explore the mind-body connection; you’re looking for a therapist you can cry AND laugh with; you’re ready to learn new skills & do the work of couples therapy, even if it’s uncomfortable at times).
These types of sections help draw in the people you’re most excited to work with, & gently weed out those whom you wouldn’t work well with.
💡 As a hint: if the same questions repeatedly come up in your initial contact w/ clients, check if your website is making this info clear & easy to find.
A little tweak — like making existing text bigger & more visible, or adding a few extra words/sentences in the right place — can make a big difference in how people experience your website… how comfortable they feel to reach out & work with you.
Your work matters, and you have gifts to share. Let’s make it easy for your future clients to understand what you do and how you can help them. 💕
To your success & abundance,
Liz
