A Good Website Makes Your Clients Feel Welcome

Have you ever tried to walk somewhere — like a coffee shop 0.3 miles away — but the sidewalk disappeared, so you ended up walking on the side of the road as cars sped by? Trying not to get swiped by side mirrors or splashed by puddles?

Same. It’s no fun trying to navigate a car-centric area by foot.

Compare that to the convenience of a wide, well-maintained, accessible sidewalk — a space made just for you, where you can travel in peace & get to where you’re going with ease.

That’s what a well-designed website feels like.

A website is a digital space that, like any physical space, can be either easy or difficult to navigate. A pleasure to spend time in… or a headache that you want to click out of.

For example: I recently tried to look up trainings, in a healing modality that’s intrigued me for a while — but the training program’s website was cluttered & disorganized; links were broken or missing; and it wasn’t clear what trainings were coming up & which ones still had space. In total honesty, it was a headache to navigate & I clicked out without signing up for anything.

Have you had an online experience like this, too?

Meanwhile, when you’re on a website that’s designed & written with the user experience in mind, you tend to linger; you get to know, like, and trust the practitioner / business, and maybe you even sign up for their email list, bookmark a blog post, or book an intro call to work together.

My point is: your website has the power to make people feel welcome 💐 (via the digital equivalent of a wide sidewalk)… or like they’re not meant to be there 🚧 (because who wants to walk on the treacherously narrow side of the road?).

Luckily, we have options.

Here are a few ways to make your website a pleasure to navigate:

✅ Show your ideal clients that they’re in the right place, as soon as they land on your website. Include a clear description of your services at the top of your home page (ex: Therapy for X Population in City, StateConsultations & Trainings on X Topic).

✅ Include clickable buttons that make it crystal-clear what the next step is — Book a Consultation, Apply to Work Together, orSign up for Newsletter. This is the digital equivalent of street signs & traffic lights — you’re guiding visitors to a destination, instead of leaving them wondering where the heck they’re supposed to go.

✅ Use fonts & colors that are gentle on the nervous system, AKA readable for as many people as possible. To check if your site’s color contrast meets accessibility standards, here’s a helpful resource.

and so much more! This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Here’s to welcoming your future clients into your digital space — and into your practice.
