Pep Talk for Entrepreneurs: There’s No Perfect Time to Start Anything
Introduction
This is an excerpt from Delightful Sites — a weekly email series helping therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs build sustainable, values-aligned businesses, through the power of website marketing. 💐
Guess what? This is my first newsletter to you, my community of amazing therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs.
In case you missed it: I’m Liz, a therapist, web designer, and copywriter. 👋🏽 When I’m not seeing clients in my private practice, I’m building websites that connect practitioners with their great-fit clients. Because I want you to have a business that lights you up, not one that burns you out.
This, here, is a weekly series called Delightful Sites — where I’ll share about how to market your practice with strategy and joy, through the power of a really good website.
I’m SO thrilled you’re here.
If we were in person, I’d be doing a ribbon-cutting ceremony, or clinking glasses of kombucha with you. In celebration of new beginnings. 🎊
Also, I want to share some real talk.
To be honest, if I’d waited for the perfect time to start this newsletter, you’d be reading this in 2029… or possibly never.
You see, parts of me are used to thinking:
“I’ll start this project when… (everything in my life is running smoothly; there are absolutely zero barriers to achieving my goal)”
“I’ll be 100% ready & confident once I.… (receive this certification, complete this training, gain 100 more hours of experience)”
👆🏽 Do you ever have thoughts like this, too?
I get it. And granted, there are definitely times when it would make ZERO sense for me to start something new.
>> Like when I was moving out of my cabin in Colorado, transitioning to a nomadic lifestyle, and figuring out how to fit my life (+ 3 cats) in a 35-foot RV.
>> Or while I was navigating autistic burnout and energy crashes, amid the darkness and hibernation vibes of winter.
>> Or when I was visiting China for a month, and family time with aging relatives took precedence over any business projects — because what is this all about if not the things that matter most.
I know you’ve had plenty of those stop-in-your-tracks moments, as well. Maybe too many to count.
We all have seasons where we need to slow down, pause, take a beat.
And you know what else? When I’m in a season where enough stability & scaffolding are in place for me to do the thing – start a blog, a newsletter, a YouTube channel, a new service page on my website – I’ve trained myself to go for it.
Sometimes, “ready-ish” is enough. One part ready, one part scared — is enough.
We don’t need to be perfect to begin making moves toward our dreams, goals, and values. We just need to begin.
So if you’ve been sitting on your next great idea or plotting a project for a while, here’s a reminder that there’s no perfect time to start.
What are you ready-ish to start — in your business, or in your life?
Cheering you on,
Liz
