Remembering Your “Why” as a Healer & Entrepreneur

Introduction

This is an excerpt from Delightful Sites — an email newsletter helping therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs build sustainable, values-aligned businesses, through the power of website marketing. 💐

I started drafting this newsletter while sitting on the train from Portland to Seattle, on my way to a business retreat.

During the retreat, I got to connect with fellow entrepreneurial therapists and brainstorm ideas for my businesses – both my therapy private practice & my website business.

What stood out to me most was how much FUN I had, and how much connection I experienced during the retreat.

In between co-working & group coaching sessions, we got to:

  • pet cats & corgis

  • stroll through Pike Place market (where I bought some lovely local tea, honey, & medicinal plants)

  • enjoy panoramic views of Seattle – a city whose vibe is moody & watery (just like my sun sign, Scorpio)

  • eat delicious food

  • share stories about each other’s pets, kids, and lives outside of business

…and my heart was so happy.

The business retreat reminded me why I chose to become an entrepreneur in the first place: to have freedom & autonomy to build the life that I want - one that includes travel, pet cuddles, & 4-day weekends.

I’m guessing you started your business for similar reasons.

  • You went into private practice because you were tired of agency work and wanted autonomy over your schedule, caseload, and income.

  • You became a healer because you wanted to help others, using your skills & gifts, while making a good living.

We all have a “why” – the reason we entered this field in the first place.

Sometimes, experiences happen that can disconnect us from our “why.”

  • the headache of dealing with insurance companies & endless paperwork

  • the realization that grad school taught us a bunch of clinical skills, yet not a single course touched on marketing or business skills - leaving you to sink or swim when it comes to actually making a living off of this expensive-AF degree

Luckily, there are also experiences that can reconnect us to our "why.”

  • the deep resonance & connection you experience when working with your ideal clients

  • the breakthrough healing moments that happen in sessions - that you feel honored to witness & support

  • the experiences you get to access when your business is financially supporting your life - from paying off student loans to living in your dream city to enjoying your hobbies without worrying about the price tag

I’m learning to seek out the experiences that affirm my “why” – and last week‘s business retreat was one of them.

I hope you get to have experiences that affirm your “why.”

After all: you are here for a reason. Your work matters. And your business is a vessel through which resources flow, allowing you to access the experiences that make life worth living in the first place.

To remembering your “why,”
