Honoring Capacity — as Humans, Practitioners, Entrepreneurs
Introduction
This is an excerpt from Delightful Sites — a weekly email series helping therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs build sustainable, values-aligned businesses, through the power of website marketing. 💐
As therapist, coaches, and healers… I know we’re all holding a lot right now. For ourselves. For our clients. For our communities, families, neighbors, loved ones.
As I write this to you in January of 2026, the truth is that these times are anything but “business as usual.” It has not been “business as usual” for a while now, whatever that means.
I want to acknowledge that your capacity may be stretched to the max right now. It might feel like you’re running on a 20% battery, or that you’re on your last “spoon.”
Trying to run your business might feel like a heavy lift.
🔋 Today, I want to talk about how to honor our capacity – as humans, business owners, and practitioners who understand that the work we do is not a mindless “clock-in, clock-out” type of job; it’s work that we bring our hearts & souls into.
I share these reflections not because I have all the answers – far from it – but because I want to share with you from one human to another.
These are some ways I preserve my capacity:
🍃 I’m mindful of where I “spend” my attention (as if it were a valuable resource — because it is!), especially when it comes to social media. On low-capacity weeks, I don’t log onto Facebook or Instagram at all. When I have some capacity, as well as a specific reason to log onto these apps, I do so for short periods of time.
My priority is to minimize doom-scrolling & protect my nervous system… because I’m much less able to be present for myself, my life, and my clients, if my brain is fried from Meta bot content.
🍃 I set up systems that streamline common processes in my business, without having to reinvent the wheel every single time.
For example, I use email & paperwork templates to onboard new clients, instead of starting from scratch. I use a calendar on my therapy website for clients to book an intro call, so we can skip the back-and-forth scheduling emails.
🍃 I remind myself that my website is doing the heavy lifting for my marketing, 24/7, which means that I do not have to be constantly working on my business. I understand that my practice will be okay if I need to step away for some time. This opens up so much more energy for me to rest & tend to other parts of my life.
These are some ideas that work for me. They may or may not work for you, depending on your business & your nervous system.
How are you honoring your capacity right now?
Where is your attention most needed in this moment?
Talk again soon,
Liz
