Your Future Self Will Thank You for Taking a Leap of Faith Today

Introduction

This is an excerpt from Delightful Sites — a weekly email newsletter helping therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs build sustainable, values-aligned businesses, through the power of website marketing. 💐

Last week, I adopted 2 dogs - Toto & Dimitri. My partner & I saw a bonded pair up for adoption at the Humane Society; fell in love with them at our meet & greet; and decided to bring them home. We’re thrilled to have 2 new souls to love & care for.

Here’s the catch, though:

The timing isn’t exactly ideal.

We’re wrapping up the last couple weeks of full-time RV life, before moving into our new home.

During this interim period, we have 5 (!!) small pets living in an RV together (2 dogs + 3 cats). It’s been… chaotic, messy, and adorable, all at once. 😅

There was a part of me that wanted to wait until things settled down, until the timing felt “perfect”, before bringing our new fur-babies home. But if I had waited for the 100% perfect time, there’s no guarantee that day would ever come.

So, what does this have to do with business & entrepreneurship?

⚠️ The truth is, there’s always some reason to wait & put things off till later.

I’ve noticed how the “wait for the perfect time” mentality can show up when we’re making business decisions.

For example…

👉🏽 Waiting for the “right time” to raise your fees (which can sometimes lead to months/yrs of waiting… even if, financially speaking, it would help sustain your business to raise your fees now)

👉🏽 Waiting till you feel 100% ready to launch the thing (a new website; a new offering; an event that you’ve been wanting to host but feel shy to announce)

👉🏽 Waiting till you feel confident & successful enough to start telling people that you have a business & that you’re accepting clients (even though no one will know to send clients your way, if they don’t know that your business exists… 🙃)

Sometimes, it makes sense to wait. I don’t believe in rushing things unnecessarily.

However, it’s also important to notice when the “wait for the perfect time” mentality is holding us back, convincing us that we’re not ready... when we actually are capable of figuring things out as we go - imperfectly & one step at a time.

If I had waited until I felt 100% ready to start a private-pay practice, publish my website, pick a niche, or launch therapy intensives… I might still be waiting. But instead, I took one uncertain step after another, gaining confidence & competence along the way.

Now, I am thankful to my past self for planting the seeds that became the business that I love today.

I wonder if there’s anything in your business that you’ve been wanting to do, but stopping yourself because it hasn’t felt like the “right time” to start.

What if there is no perfect time - only a willingness to take the first step, and then the next step after that?

This is your invitation to:

✔️ Send the networking email.
✔️ Post the reel.
✔️ Publish the blog.
✔️ Update your fees on your website.
✔️ (or something else - it’s up to you!)

Your future self will thank you for taking a leap of faith today.

Cheering for you,

Liz
