The (Secret) Hardest Part of Building a Website: Allowing Yourself to Be Seen
Introduction
This is an excerpt from Delightful Sites — a weekly email series helping therapists, coaches, and entrepreneurs build sustainable, values-aligned businesses, through the power of website marketing. 💐
No one really talks about this, but when it comes to building your website, the hardest part isn’t necessarily the technical jargon. Or picking the perfect color palette. Or writing really good, non-AI-generated copy.
(Although, yes, these are absolutely challenging parts of the process, and I don’t blame you if trying to DIY your website has you on the verge of a meltdown. 🫠 It’s hard!)
Today, I want to talk about the *secret* hardest part of building a website, that might sneak up on you right when you’re about to hit publish. It’s the part where you have to actually allow yourself to be seen.
When you launch your website, the whole point is that you’re making your presence visible online. You’re putting yourself out there – your image, your voice, the unique qualities that make you, you (and the reason why your clients choose you).
A website makes it real: you’re committing to the idea that, yes, you do have a business, you have services to offer, and you have gifts to share.
What happens when you read that?
>> Maybe you feel jittery, a mix of excited & nervous.
>> Maybe parts of you feel like hiding, because you’ve always hated being perceived. 🙈
>> Meanwhile, other parts of you may feel ready & curious to share your work with the world, in its truest & most genuine form.
For many therapists & coaches, the concept of being seen is… unfamiliar. After all, you’re so used to holding space for your clients, making sure they feel seen & heard.
No one ever told you how nerve-wracking it would be to build a business that requires you to market yourself, talk about your services, & (gasp) be seen doing so.
Launching your website isn’t just logistical; it’s emotional.
I get it, because I’ve been there myself. That’s why it means so much to me — as a therapist turned web designer & copywriter — to work with fellow therapists & coaches on their websites.
I want to help you feel comfortable with being seen — as the talented practitioner that you are, and as the human that your clients want to connect with.
💻 When you work with me on a website package, you don’t just leave with a beautifully designed, thoughtful written website that converts into ideal clients — you leave with a sense of confidence in who you are & what you do.
And that confidence ripples out to other parts of your life. If you didn’t already, you’ll start to see yourself in the same brilliant light that others see you.
Remember: to allow yourself to be seen is to allow your future clients to find you.
Rooting for you,
Liz
